Firstly, I had a tough time reading the New York Time News, because I have a limitation of vocabulary. I think maybe I have never read something about politics before, so I have to check my dictionary frequently to understand the news. Fortunately, things get better. Some core words show up repeatedly, and I become much more comfortable of the news style. My speed of reading online becomes quicker.
Because I am a Chinese guy, I pay more attention to the Chinese News here in the New York Times website. Two days ago, I noticed a news in the website titled “A Fireworks Truck Explodes, Shattering a Bridge in China”. That’s unbelievable! From my perspective, a regular bridge cannot be damage just by the firework. Maybe the bridge has a really poor quality, for the reason that some government officials got money from businessmen who spent much less money to buy some unqualified raw materials to build it. The new Chinese government just came into power, and the new president Jinping Xi announced the influence of corruption in the Chinese government, and he will take actions to deal it the corruption, and take corruptive officials into prison.
I think the online news reading has a great influence on my habit of English reading, especially when I found that there is a Chinese edition in that website. And after I entered the Chinese version of the New York Times, I could read the reports in English and Chinese in the same time. I was very excited when I found this, because I can practice my English while I am reading the news. And it becomes much more easier for me to understand the content of the news reports.
In addition, I also learned how to browse information and got some useful information that I need quickly now. English has various styles for in different purposes, and I do need to know how to deal with these different articles. Furthermore, I learn a lot of phrase to use in my essays later on. I find it is very interesting to write blog and present my ideas online.
